Children of today must be instructed
and fortified by mothers for the struggle
that will come tomorrow! We have
witnessed such tremendous conflicts as
the World War and World Economic
Depression: catastrophes of the Russian,
Mexican and Spanish Revolutions;
famine stalking all Asia, and this was
just the beginning. To meet this crisis
successfully and pass through it, our
children must be prepared. And the
training ground is the Catholic home!
Only a return to Christ can save the
world. His Love must possess and govern
human hearts and His Truth must
enlighten human minds. In no other
way can the restoration be brought
about, save through the Catholic Church
and the Christian family! How innumerable
are the forces aimed at the
destruction of all Christian life today! If
they are to be successfully withstood,
she who gave that life in the case of
each individual will undoubtedly be
the first to rush to its defense.
The opposition beating against
Christian civilization shows an onsweep
of battalions that issue from the very
maw of hell itself. The theater and
motion pictures crush out every trace
of honor, virtue and self-respect, and
dignity from the souls of millions of
children and youth. Thousands of tons
of vile literature roll off the printing
presses daily to befoul the minds of our
people. Divorce is accepted without
concern. Greed for gold ruins the
body and soul of countless humans.
Against all this iniquity, the Catholic
mother must put on the armor of
Truth and take up the shield of Faith,
and face the fight with a fortitude of
which only she can boast. The valor
and intrepidity of the Pioneer Mother
must be united with the courage of
a heart bound to God by sanctifying
grace. Thus, she will conquer!
Victory will come with a return to
virtuous living; the practice of Christian
charity, meekness and hope; cherishing
in outright obedience all the sacred
truths of our Holy Catholic Faith. The
veneration of Our Blessed Mother has
been one of the noblest and most vital
graces, and has been productive of true
holiness of life and purity of character.
The Mother of God has given dignity
to the humblest duties and comfort to
the worst trials of women; and every
brightest and loftiest achievement of
the arts and strength of manhood has
been the fulfillment of the assured
prophecy of the Israelite Maiden, “He
that is mighty has magnified me
and holy is His Name.” S
t. Stanislaus of the 16th Century was
the darling of Our Blessed Mother. He
was sent into a Protestant land to go
to school and was miserably harassed
for his Faith. His own brother and
a heretic landlord persecuted him
incessantly. His heavenly Mother Mary
appeared to him on several occasions
and confided the Infant Jesus to his
embrace. Amidst the persecution, he
found solace i n the great truth,
Mater Dei - Mater Mei:
“God’s Mother is my Mother!”
