“What would you do if this were your family
member?” That’s the question Ben Darby has taught
his son and law partner, Tim Darby, to ask about each
client that comes through the door of the Darby
Law Group.
The Darby family helps other families deal with those
aspects of life one sometimes doesn’t want to face –
the uncertainty of the future. “Plan today,” says Tim
Darby, “to protect the future. It’s like preventative
medicine: Unless you take steps now for your families’
long-term health care and to protect assets and
legacy, there will be expense and difficulty that could
have been avoided.”
Nothing makes you both more competent and
compassionate than living through something
yourself. The Darbys’ practice in estate planning
and long-term care planning stemmed from their
own family’s experience. Years ago, research for
his own father’s veterans benefits led Ben to
evolve his general practice into a focus on estate
planning and Medicaid planning and qualification,
as well as planning for veterans benefits. His son
Tim has attained accreditation with the Veterans
Administration to provide these services. Planning
for the long-term care of both grandparents and
experiencing the results of that planning all the way
through end-of life issues and estate distribution
inspire the Darbys to advise clients with a sensitivity
to the emotional needs of the family.
“We don’t have a written mission statement per
se,” said Tim. “But we live by the sentiment that our
family takes care of yours. We are very conscious of
the best interests of families and treat our clients like
family. We want them to feel the respect, care, and
love they deserve.”
Being a small firm allows the Darby law team to
stay flexible and close to clients. “It makes for very
rewarding work. Helping people and being involved
in our community are intensely important to us.”
The name Darby has been a respected staple of the
Lakeland legal scene for forty-eight years, and for
twelve years now, it has been a dual-generational
force for good for central Florida families.
