Middletown South Wrestler Jack Zaleski
Captures Mobbin Classic Title
BY LES PIERCE
Last year as a freshman, Middletown High School South’s
Jack Zaleski arrived on the Shore Conference wrestling
scene with a splash. The rookie grappler posted 42 victories
and claimed both the District 19 and Region 5 championships
Moving up the weights by two clicks to the 120-pound
level in the upcoming season, Zaleski will be facing new challenges.
In preparation for those challenges, he has been participating
in club wrestling in the off season.
Competing with the Triumph Wresting Club, he recently
captured the 120-pound title at the coveted Mobbin Media
Classic, held at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen.
Zaleski began his journey through the tournament brackets
-
ons Wrestling Club. A 13-5 major decision over Yale Street Wres-
Wrestling Club. Day wrestles for perennial powerhouse Phillipsburg
during the regular season and is the reigning District 13 champion.
Seemingly unimpressed by his opponent’s credentials, Zaleski cruised
to a 7-0 shutout victory to claim the title.
“I’m looking forward to having a season with my team,” Zaleski said.
“Middletown South is on the rise right now, and we are only getting better.
Personally for myself, I’m looking for a state title. It has been my goal
since I was 8 years old.”
