Rumson-Fair Haven Wrestler Max Brignola
Captures Mobbin Classic Title
BY LES PIERCE
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High
School’s Max Brignola appears to be
ready for the upcoming wrestling
season. The two-time reigning District 18
champion continued to sharpen his skills
in the off-season by participating in open
tournaments. Competing with the Triumph
Wresting Club, he recently captured the
152-pound title at the coveted Mobbin Media
Classic, held at St. Joseph High School
in Metuchen.
Brignola started the tourney with a

to this opponent by a 7-1 score at the Tyrant
Ice Age Duals in Pennsylvania.
The Bulldog senior fell behind early in
this rematch by a 3-0 margin and was likely
thinking the outcome would be a repeat of
the previous encounter. However, he rallied
late to claim the title with a close 6-5 victory.
“Max made the adjustments to avenge a
loss,” stated RFH Head Coach Bryan Heller.
“He puts in the work to improve on all facets
of his game. He has great coaching and training
partners during the offseason, which was
much longer than usual this year due to
COVID. He pushes himself to get better on his own. He set up and ran
workouts for a small group of partners leading up to the season to ensure
he would come in ready to go. It's a level of accountability that is rare in
high school athletes.”
Brignola notched 37 victories last season and is currently fourth on
the RFH career wins roster with 113. He was on track to overtake the alltime
leader Nick Addison (139), but the shortened season has taken that
goal out of play. Brignola has committed to Lehigh University.
