to the future as we all recover from the devastating effects of the
COVID-19 pandemic and mourn the lives lost. The group is excited
to announce tentative concert dates for the remainder of 19th season.
These concerts will be held outdoors and socially distanced.
Mark your calendars for Friday, June 4 at 7:30 pm and Friday, July
2 at 6 pm. The June 4 show will be held at Thompson Park, 805 Newman
Springs Rd. in Lincroft while the July concert will take place at the Colts
Neck Fireworks in Bucks Mill Park. The programs will include lighthearted
fare of concert band classics and Americana. Visit ColtsNeckBand.org in
the days leading up to the concerts in the unfortunate event that either
concert is canceled due to changing conditions of the pandemic. Bring a
lawn chair and enjoy live music under the stars!
In addition to its upcoming live concerts, CNCB has been hard at
work preparing a virtual performance in which musicians record their individual
performance of the music in their home. These videos are then
professionally engineered to create an ensemble performance – a way of
making music together without the risks of gathering in person.
CNCB’s virtual performance of the gospel hymn “Just a Closer Walk
with Thee” is set to be released on YouTube and the band’s website in
late May. This piece holds great meaning for the band and was chosen
to honor the memory of all the lives lost to the pandemic globally. It is
a standard in gospel music, performed as either a vocal or instrumental
and has been recorded by artists in many genres, from gospel to jazz and
brass bands. This arrangement is in keeping with the New Orleans tradition
of a jazz funeral in which the procession to the cemetery is played
in solemn fashion and the recessional celebrates the continuation of life
with Dixieland jazz.
concert bands in the state of New Jersey and is under the guidance of its
