The 2020-21 Middletown High School South wrestling team roster was
almost completely staffed with underclassmen. In spite of their youth,
the athletes completed a winning regular season with an 8-2 record.
Sophomore Jack Zaleski was the only Eagle to go undefeated
throughout the campaign. The reigning District 19 and Region 5 champion
wrestles at 120 pounds and scored three falls over the season, including
a pin in just 31 seconds over Cranford’s Mike Ramirez.
Travis Tuminelli compiled a record of 8-2 at 126 pounds. He scored
four consecutive falls over opponents from Cranford, Freehold Township,
Marlboro and Williamstown. His two losses were to a pair of highly
ranked opponents. One loss was to District 25 champion Neiko Malone,
of Howell. The other was to Garrett Totten, of Christian Brothers Acad-
seventh place All State.
Alex Quintano also posted an 8-2 record. He anchors the 145-pound
slot for the Eagles, and scored four falls and a technical fall within the
eight wins. He is arguably South’s most improved wrestler, coming off a
6-12 record in 2020.
-
tler scored three falls with two coming in less than a minute.
Wrestling at 195 Jack Willi went 7-2 with two falls to his credit. Nick
Holland put up a 6-3 record with a pair of falls competing at 160 pounds.
Both Willi and Holland were District 19 medalists in 2020.
The Eagles were strong at the highest weights. Matthew Cody established
a 5-1 mark and scored two falls wrestling at 220 pounds. The
District 19 silver medalist recorded the fastest fall of the season by an
Eagle at 28 seconds.
Heavyweight Dante Miranda fell just short of a winning record
last year. This was a turnaround season for Miranda as he went 7-3 and
scored four falls, two of which were achieved in less than 50 seconds.
The good news for Middletown South is that every wrestler highlighted
here will be returning next season.
The Easter Bunny Returns to Lincroft
BY LES PIERCE
Last spring, the annual Easter Egg Hunt
hosted by the Lincroft Village Green Association
(LVGA) was canceled due to COVID-19
issues. However, the Easter Bunny returned
March 21 on the grounds of the Lincroft Village
Green on Newman Springs Road.
The egg hunt and petting zoo were not
included this year due to distancing protocols.
However, the Easter Bunny was on hand to welcome
children and pose for photo keepsakes.
About 150 children attended the two-hour
event, and each received a goody bag. LVGA
water bottles and bracelets were also given out
in addition to kids’ meal tokens that were donated
by the Holmdel Texas Roadhouse. A food
drive on behalf of the Backpack Crew was also
held in conjunction with the event.
A LVGA committee of Jaime Palumbo, Kate
Compton and Mary Grant organized the function.
“It was important for us as a community
organization to sponsor an event that could
bring families and neighbors together in a
safe way,” Compton said. “We were fortunate
enough to have a beautiful day and amazing
participation from the Lincroft community.”
