About 45 miles outside of Toronto, settled on a nine-acre plot sits the
world-class Hockey Training Institute in Mulmur, Ontario. The facility
is led by Jenya Feldman and his highly-trained staff, one of whom is former
NHL star and Stanley Cup champion Dmitri Mironov. These coaches and
trainers, pulling from their own experiences and lessons learned on the
ice, provide advanced training opportunities for young hockey players who
strive to take their game to the highest level.
HTI’s head of hockey operations, Rebecca Vint played NCAA D-I hockey for
Robert Morris University, where she set records as the program’s top scorer
during her time there and also for the Brampton Thunder in the CWHL and
the Buffalo Beauts in the NWHL after her college career.
The HTI compound serves as a residential training facility that is open yearround
for hockey players from the ages of 10 to 20+ years old from all over
the world to participate in competitive Canadian and American showcases
while receiving training from some of the best talent in the sport.
The 20,000 square foot center offers ample boarding accommodations for
these players who attend the training camps hosted throughout the year, as
well as an exercise and conditioning center, outdoor shooting lanes, and a
ball hockey court for players to practice their slappers and stick handling.
During their downtime, players can also stay active with
other outdoor recreational activities on the baseball
diamond, soccer field, or basketball court at the HTI
campus.
While HTI opens its doors to all hockey players looking to
advance their skills, Feldman says that their main focus
is to train the next generations of female hockey players
and to provide opportunities that have not previously
been available to them.
Since its foundation in 2014, there have been many
young women who have benefited from the training
they received at HTI. Knowing the impact of training and
development from the talented coaches, these players
travel great distances to be a part of such a renowned
program. HTI players have hailed from Canada, America,
Sweden, the Czech Republic, Russia, Finland, and many
more countries over the years.
HTI Opens Doors
for Female
Hockey Players
Around the World
By Reba LaRose
The highest level that each player strives to attain while at HTI is to be a
part of the HTI Stars team. This program focuses on building both athletic
and academic skillsets to prepare young female players to enter the
collegiate level.
Throughout the season, Stars players have the opportunities to play against
a variety of teams from Ontario to Minnesota to China.
As they spend many months and even years training in such a successdriven
environment as HTI, it is not surprising to see that more than a
dozen of these young women have gone on to play for Division I teams at
institutions such as Providence College and the University of Maine, as
well as for international teams like team Germany, team Norway, and team
Mexico to name a few.
Although these women have gone to play for different teams around the
world, they all credit much of their success and ability to reach these levels
of hockey to the exceptional development and training they received from
the coaching staff at HTI.
As HTI president and head coach of the girls U20 team, Feldman uses his
19 years’ coaching experience to help these girls become the best athletes
that they can be.
