Promotes the
City he Loves
By L. M. Labat
Bold, busy and beautiful are
only some of the choice words
to describe New Orleans.
With a wealth of culture,
brilliance and history, this city is the
birthplace of many great artists and
innovators. Among them is an individual
who embodies its tenacity, vibrance and
depth: Mark Romig.
As a native New Orleanian, 63-year
old Mark graduated from Brother Martin
High School and began as an eager freshman
at the University of New Orleans
who yearned to become a dentist. In
finding his passion for communication,
hospitality and helping people, he
changed his plans and ran head first into
the hospitality industry. Since making
that decision, he worked his way up to
becoming the President and CEO of
the New Orleans Tourism Marketing
Corporation.
“We look for the culture seeker,” Mark
said, listing one of the major objectives
of the city’s bustling leisure and travel
promotion agency. As the head of the
NOTMC, he stays keen and alert in
elevating the local economy and tourism
industry through collaborating with
local businesses, listening to the citizens
and implementing mechanisms for the
longevity of the industry. “I’ve been here
since June of 2011, and promoting my
hometown is what I love to do. I love
promoting New Orleans,” he added.
When asked why he loved promoting
New Orleans, Mark elaborated, “Well,
it’s hometown pride. It’s a city like no
other.” With actions to back up his words,
Mark has a deep passion for his city and
his efforts have been honored. This past
January, Mark was presented with the
Ella Brennan Lifetime Achievement in
Hospitality from the New Orleans Wine
and Food Experience. In achieving this
award, he was acknowledged and recognized
as a visionary who excelled in the
field, with leadership, professionalism, a
love for the community and a foundation
in philanthropic deeds.
