food drive in November/Thanksgiving
to the toy drive in December/Christmas.
They set a goal of surpassing the
previous year’s 400 toys and went about
spreading word out and mobilizing
friends for assistance.
And when it was done they had

The staggering number of toys had
created logistical issues, such as where
to keep them initially, and then how to
get them all to Metropolitan Ministries.
The Heldfond’s garage was cleared out
and repurposed into a toy storage area.
They rented a moving truck to transport
the toys, but even that wasn’t enough,
as Carideo and Heldfond packed several
cars with more toys to deliver.
They hope to carry their incredible
service initiatives into their senior year,
tournament once again, along with the
food and toy drive.
“Never. I never thought it would be this
big,” Heldfond said. “Just to see the jump
what to say. It has been unbelievable.”
