Like Asher Heldfond ’22 and Mac

him (see p. 16), the desire to
initiate a service project struck
early on this fall, during his
freshman year.
Boyd’s desire was to create
something his entire class could be
involved with each year, a new service
project for the Class of 2024 for each
of their four years at Jesuit.
He ran his plan by the school’s
administration and then got to work,
soliciting classmates to be a part of it.
Year 1 would be a toy drive at
Christmas.
“The Jesuit Class of 2024 Christmas
Toy Drive is a partnership with Johns
Hopkins (All Children’s Hospital) trying
to get gifts to kids who unfortunately
will not be home during the holiday
season,” Boyd said.
Children hospitalized during
Christmas would receive toys from

cache of toys and other gifts for children,

classmates delivered the gifts to the
children at the hospital.
Boyd’s effort got the attention of a
local TV station, which came to Jesuit to
interview Boyd and aired a segment about
his initiative.
“The kids obviously need some joy in their
life at this time,” said Jesuit’s director of
community service,. “Any
time a student goes above and beyond
and comes to us with an idea like this, it

getting started. They’ve got three more
years of major service projects to come.
