park offers ample opportunities for canoeing
and kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming, picnicking
and camping. Saltwater and freshwater
anglers alike will delight in Oscar Scherer’s fishing
opportunities along creek banks and the
shores of Lake Osprey.
Oscar Scherer is a trailhead of the Legacy
Trail, a nearly 11-mile bike path connecting
Sarasota with Venice. To the south, the Legacy
Trail connects with the Venetian Waterway,
offering a combined 20 miles of biking.
Myakka State Forest
The Myakka State Forest is an 8,593-acre
forest located in North Port, southwestern
Sarasota County. Myakka State Forest offers
trail biking, as well as challenging off-road
biking opportunities, hiking, equestrian use,
fishing, paddling, picnicking and primitive
