Life
best year,
best you
advice for no regrets
Gone is 2017 and along with the year all
the things we wished we did as well as
the things we wished we hadn’t done.
Life is too short to live in the past. The physical
and emotional energy expended regretting can
be better spent moving forward. Although we are
already in the new year, it is not too late to make
this the best year and the best you.
pinpoint
All too often we make a list of resolutions to
include, but not limited to, mental wellness,
spiritual fitness, debt reduction, random acts of
kindness, cleaning out closets, both physically
and emotionally, and deciding to finally fit back
into the skinny jeans (that you have held onto
since college). The problem is that when we focus
on too many and too lofty of things, we end up
achieving nothing. We also have to keep our goals
realistic if we have any hopes of achieving them.
The best thing to do is focus on one thing and
only one thing this year. Yes, put all your eggs in
one basket. Don’t worry, you’ll have a new basket
to fill next year.
plan
Each journey begins with a single step, literally.
With your focus on your destination, make a road
map on how you plan to reach that one thing.
Start with the big picture and write it down. Writing
goals is the single most important thing you
can do, whether it is secretly in a journal, in a box

of 3x5 cards, on a poster board, or on an app on
your smartphone. You can be as creative as you
like with illustrations (stick figures are perfect
if you are limited by your artistic abilities), your
kids’ stickers, photos, etc. Let your creativity be
your only limitation. One you have identified your
one goal for this year, write down what you need
to do to achieve that goal in monthly, weekly and
daily tasks. Make sure each task is something you
are able and willing to do.
persevere
Even if you lose sight of that one thing and fall
back into the old patterns (those patterns that
got you here in the first place), don’t give up all
your success for a minor or even major setback.
Sometimes we need to a couple steps back to
take one very important step forward. The year
will fly by whether you work towards and achieve
your goal or not.
