Celebrate One Year of Living Food!
By Gary S. Hatrick
Living Food Farm Fresh Bakery and Café at 38201 10th Avenue
celebrates one year this month and owner and operator
Vicky Lin is happy with how the business has grown.
“We’ve been through a lot, like the hurricane, and we survived
the first slow season,” Lin said. The
experience has led them to start new things
and offer more services.
“I found out that many people with
health issues need a more detailed approach
to eating healthy,” Lin said. “I came
up with meal plans based on their body’s
needs, along with customized tea based on
their body’s situation.”
Lin’s goal is to balance opposing
conditions in your body that affect health
and well-being and to detox the body
and add needed nutrition. For instance,
people with diabetes or high cholesterol
need different types of food, Lin said, so
she customizes meal plans to help customers
feel better. Lin does not charge
for the readings, but she prepares the raw
products and gives instructions on how to prepare them. The
ingredients and teas are then available for purchase.
Lin has also added some new items to the menu-to-go. “We
have our homemade moringa noodles with no preservatives, no
artificial flavors or colors,” she said. “We use the durum flour,
which is not white flour and we add vegetables and moringa; in
addition we have our moringa whole wheat bread; multigrain
rice with salmon; and wild shrimp with multigrain rice. The
multigrain rice consists of quinoa, black wild rice, millet and
brown rice, a high fiber, protein and nutritionally beneficial.”
Another special addition has been Lin’s five-element porridge.
“The theory is based on Chinese herbal
medicine,” Lin explained. “We talk about how
different colors go into different parts of our organs.
As an example, the yellow color goes into our
spleen, the red color goes into our heart, the white
color goes into our lungs, the black color goes into
the kidney and the green color into the liver. This
is a very balanced porridge which allows for easy
absorption during the morning to help our bodies
get ready for the day.”
As with meal plans, Lin prepares the ingredients
to make the porridge. You can tailor it to your
taste. It can be made salty, sweet or add pepper to
make it taste like chili sauce.
People have commented to Lin on how much
better they feel after eating what Lin calls ”clean
food.” People who have come into the bakery with
no energy return now full of energy. “That’s how
much clean food and detoxing foods can change you,” Lin said.
Some people are taking fewer pills, but of course, that should
not be done without a doctor’s advice.
Lin grows many of her ingredients at her farm in Dade City.
They grow all their herbs and greens like moringa, burdock,
ginger, passionfruit, white radish, purple yam, bok choy and
others.
The bakery celebrated Valentine’s Day and the Chinese New
Year on Feb. 10 with a Lantern Competition. The turnout was
wonderful, a great family friendly event. The bakery also holds
a variety of health related seminars during the month. Follow
them on Facebook for updated events.
