Geoffrey C. Smith
Geoffrey began his career at the age of 15, carving birds in wood.
Geoffrey soon moved to the demanding medium of sculpting in clay
and casting in bronze. His first bronze was cast in 1984. His artistic style
continues to evolve. A constant challenge to him is to impart the impression
of motion or incipient motion to his work. His passion for movement
and composition are evident in all his creations. Years of reining his skills
at modeling clay are evident when view his statues.
Smith believes in sculpting nature and the human figure in powerful
archetypal imagery; transcending size and scale. Smith wanted to work
more with the human figure. His latest creations, all located in the Sandpearl
Resort have been "The Shell Boys', (2 life-size 8 year old boys holding a shell),
"Turtle and Spades", the life-size "Snowy Egret Duet", a wall mount of an
"Osprey", and "Skimming the Waves" (a Pelican in flight).
The perfectionist at the foundry, Geoffrey has opted for a traditional
chemical patine on his bronze sculpture. All pieces are cast using the
age-old lost was process, whereby a clay original of his creation is
transformed at he foundry into an enduring bronze, of limited issue.
