Double Take
Completing just one REALTOR® Code of Ethics course could
simultaneously fulfill your license AND your membership renewal requirements
FREC LICENSE RENEWAL REQUIREMENT
Deadline: September 30, 2018
FREC now requires all real estate licensees to
complete a three-hour Ethics and Business Practices
course as part of the license-renewal package (the 14-hour total requirement
remains the same). Licensees with a renewal deadline of September
30, 2018 must take this course in order to renew their real estate license!
Under the continuing education 14-hour requirement, any real estate
license renewal after March 31, 2018 must include the following:
1. 3-hour Core Law course
2. 3-hour Ethics and Business Practices course
3. 8-hours of specialty courses (which may include a second Core Law
course)
The change does not impact post-education requirements that apply to
renewal of an initial license.
Ethics classes offered through ORRA (live and online) have been
approved by FREC and fulfill the license renewal requirement. Visit the
“Education” section of orlandorealtors.org and sign up for an ethics class
without delay. Classes fill up quickly as there are many thousands of ORRA
members who must complete the requirement by September 30.
To confirm completion of the FREC requirement, log into the DBPR
portal.
NAR CODE OF ETHICS REQUIREMENT
Deadline: December 31, 2018
Important Reminder: NAR’s Code of Ethics training
requirement has changed from a quadrennial
(four) to a biennial (two) cycle! All REALTORS® must
now complete a Code of Ethics training every two years; the first biennial
cycle began January 1, 2017 and ends December 31, 2018.
Those REALTORS® who have completed any of the following since January
1, 2017 have satisfied the requirement and DO NOT need to take an
additional NAR COE class:
• Completed a NAR Code of Ethics training class
• Attended a live Code of Ethics class at ORRA
• Attended the Professional Standards Annual Training Course
• Attended the Professional Standards Course in the GRI 100 Series
• Completed ORRA's Online Code of Ethics Course through TheCEShop.

member portal.
ETHICS
The Code of Ethics plays a big role in both real
estate licensure requirements and REALTOR®
membership requirements this year.
First off, there is a new ethics-related requirement
for anyone who needs to renew their license by
September 30, 2018 (and thereafter). Secondly, December
31, 2018 marks the deadline for completion of NAR’s
biennial ethics cycle.
The good news is that completing one ethics class
through ORRA within the proper timeframe will fulfill
both mandates.
