Amish Countryside 13
There are many unique
scenes here in our Amish
community from the simple
to the quirky ones and part of
the scenery are signs. There
are simple everyday signs like
Amish quilts for sale and others,
such as wiggle worms with a
wiggly arrow on it directing you
to where you can buy them.
The signage may cause one
to question what’s there. A sign
like “Meadow Brook School”
causes me to wonder what the
scene outside the school really
looks like. If so, do any of the
children get anything done with
such an idyllic scene outside
their windows?
Certainly there are signs
here that don’t appear in the
cities. Horse auction, sawdust,
or free zucchini would be
or wares offered in a home,
uncommon elsewhere, are still
common here and advertised by
signage at the end of driveways.
Sometimes the best part of the
sign is what is used or maybe
something reused to create the
sign. Occasionally, even large
rocks can be painted up to be a
sign.
The signs pictured here
may no longer be observable
in our area as they often come
and go quite frequently. We
encourage you to have fun
noticing and photographing your
own quirky signs though!
