A MESSAGE FROM Mz GOOSE
As the personality known as Mz Goose, the Modern Day Mother Goose®, I
wrote “modern day nursery rhymes.” Over the past years, I thought I should
also write “modern day fables.”
A fable is a story which teaches a lesson or moral. The word comes from Latin
meaning “story” or “speak.” The characters are usually animals that talk like
people. Aesop’s Fables are the most famous fables. They date back to the 5th
Century BC.
My fables are similar to Aesop’s, except the children guess the lesson of the
story. The lessons of The Happiness Fables were inspired by a booklet called
The Way to Happiness which is a non-religious set of modern day morals or
precepts as a guide to better living. The Way to Happiness by L. Ron Hubbard
is highly popular, has been distributed all over the world and is printed in many,
many languages.
I chose to call each fable a tale, which is another word for “story,” especially
one that is imaginatively recounted. The word comes from Old English and Old
German, meaning “telling, something told.”
The Happiness Fables are for telling. Curl up in a comfortable chair or
with pillows behind you in a bed and read to your child or children. Have
them guess the lesson of the story and interact with them. Interaction and
communication are vital between the reader and listener. You can “talk” for
the characters! You can be a “Mrs. Rhinoceros” or a “Flashy Fox”; a “Messy
Moose,” or a “Hurry-Scurry Birdie.”
With Aesop’s Fables and The Way to Happiness as inspiration, I am hoping that
The Happiness Fables by Mz Goose will be read throughout the world and, as
fun stories, make children happier.
