2014 Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame Inductee (Valor)
United States Marine Corps
Corporal Jeffrey Curtis
was inducted into the 2014 Class of
the Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall
the face of a numerically superior
manned and armed enemy force.
On August 17, 2010, while serving
a part of a six-man security patrol
in Afghanistan, his unit came under
sudden, intense, and accurate machine
burst critically wounded four of the six Marines, including the
safety, Corporal Cole immediately took control of the machine
positions. Even after he was wounded in his left arm and bleeding
heavily, and soon followed by being struck in his armor plating
and being knocked down, Corporal Cole continued to stand his
ground despite his pain, knowing that the survival and evacuation
of all was now dependent on him.
For his heroic actions and wounds suffered on that day, he was
awarded the Purple Heart and our Nation’s third highest award for
valor, the Silver Star.
