1935 DESOTO AIRFLOW
The individual responsible for the design of the Airflow in 1934 was Carl Breer, the Chief Engineer for Chrysler Corporation.
Until this time, most cars resembled boxes on wheels with separate headlights attached to a vertical radiator grille and
spare tires carried in fender wells or strapped onto the body above the rear bumper. Mr. Breer and his engineers discovered
that a conventional car running backward encountered less air resistance than it did running forward. The radical Airflows
were well engineered and technically way ahead of their time. They were extremely safe and rode, drove and handled
exceptionally well. Special features include dual cowl fresh air intakes for passenger comfort, exterior metal sun visor,
“suicide” design rear doors for ease of passenger entry and exit, dual individually opening windshields, fog lamps, rear
mounted spare tire with locking metal cover, full rear wheel opening and fender skirts.
