Contemporary urban bistro meets Southern charm
of the Little Rock Sustainability Commission,
launch the Toward Zero Waste campaign. It is
the festival each year. The city recognizes the
impact that single-use items is having only the
environment of our Natural State. The Little
Rock Board of Directors recently passed a
resolution to create a task force that will be
studying these products as they affect our
community. The city's Sustainability Commission
is dedicated to supporting this task force as it
works towards the December 2019 presentation
to the board of directors. This campaign is
to serve as a model for other festivals as well
efforts include eliminating the use of Styrofoam
containers of any kind; straws are only available
upon request, and plastic single-use water bottles
will not be sold. Each subsequent year, more
initiatives will be rolled out to move toward zero
waste. For more information on these groups,
visit littlerock.gov/sustainability and facebook.

This seemingly overwhelming plan was
developed by researching adopted measures
in similarly-sized cities and festivals. The
organizers will support vendors and food trucks
with necessary resources during the transition.
There will also be an education component for
festival-goers both before and during the event.
The festival will have Watering Holes which
water bottles as well as small pools for your fourlegged
friends (yes, the festival is pet friendly),
so bring your tumblers and sport bottles to help
make the effort a success.
Noticeably, there is a theme of sustainability
throughout, but the determination does not
stop there. Just as the Arkansas Cornbread
Festival has seen marked success and growth,
the mission transcends the festival itself to the
community, the economy, and the environment.
The 9th Annual Arkansas Cornbread
Festival takes place on Saturday, October
26th, along South Main Street in Little Rock
between 13th and 17th Streets, from 11:00
a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The event is free to attend,
however to sample the cornbread offerings,
you must purchase a cornbread tasting ticket
– get early-bird discounted tasting tickets at
arkansascornbreadfestival.com. Follow the
festival on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to
