What do you feel like you’ve accomplished in
your first term on the Memphis City Council?
I’ve accomplished a great deal in a short period of
time. It speaks to my ability to work with people.
Being a human resources professional for so many
years and just having a love for making things
happen for the good of my community, I’ve
worked with my colleagues to accomplish the
following for District 3:
• Sponsored the MLGW’s Share the Pennies
initiative, increasing the funding from $45K to
$2.4M.
• Supported the Council’s grant program for
nonprofit organizations. Contributed over
$800,035 to District 3.
• Defeated two proposals for landfills in the
Hickory Hill-Oakhaven area and Whitehaven
for disposal of trash and debris in District 3.
• Supported the cost of living increase for city
employees. Additionally, I initiated and
supported a bonus for city retirees, which had
not happened in eight years.
• Supported the expansion of hours for community
centers and libraries, and the development of the
summer employment opportunities for youth.
• Secured funding for cameras on city property
(libraries, community centers, and parks)
• I educated the community through quarterly
town hall meetings, monthly informational
sessions, and Patrice’s Express newsletters.
• Spearheaded the Lexia Reading Program in
Memphis Community Centers that led to the
City offering after-school programming that
included reading support.
