The Mainland
& Knotts Island
18On the Mainland
As you travel along
Route 168/158 on your
way to or from the
Outer Banks, you’ll
find a wide array of
attractions that are
well worth a visit,
including roadside
produce stands
that specialize in locally grown fruits and
vegetables, a variety of shops and restaurants,
and facilities for a range of outdoor activities.
Here, you’ll also find campgrounds and
sound-front lodging. The northern tip of the
mainland is just south of the Virginia border,
so it’s a popular day-trip destination for many
people. If you live farther away, it’s a perfect
opportunity to enjoy an extra day of fun on your
vacation, or simply to do some quick, last-minute
shopping on the way to your beach house.
A Golfer’s

North Carolina.
“People are realizing
we’re every bit as special
as Myrtle Beach or Hilton
Head,” says Kilmarlic’s
Director of Golf, Bryan
Sullivan. The Tom Steeledesigned
Kilmarlic, sitting
on 605 acres of maritime
forest and wetlands, hosted
the North Carolina Open in
2004 and 2009.
