In 1927 Alphonso Gabriel “Al” Capone purchased Buicks for
his subordinates to enable them to make meetings in Chicago
and Cicero, Illinois. In the mid 1990’s the History Channel aired
a segment about Al Capone, featuring the 1927 Buicks given to
his subordinates. This Buick is one of those vehicles that were
collectively known as the “Whiskey 6” Buicks.
One day I was at a book sale at the St. Louis City Library, where
I happened upon a book containing a photo of this “27 Buick.
The caption included the original Waterloo, Iowa owner’s name.
The owner before me had purchased it from that estate. I actu-
-
rage. It was sitting in a corner of the garage on jack stands. Only
the body and frame were there, the engine and running gear had
been parted out.
