In June, 4-month-old Londyn Wright
was the first baby in the country
treated with a newly approved
gene therapy to treat her spinal
muscular atrophy. The landmark
dose was delivered by a team at UF
Health, where nearly 40 years earlier
research was underway that led to
today’s gene therapies.
The night before Londyn Wright's infusion,
a drug company representative flew from
Chicago to Orlando with a cooler containing
four vials of Zolgensma. Another rep drove it
from Orlando to Gainesville.
