Alma Littles, MD ’96, received the Elizabeth
Blackwell Award from the American Medical
Women’s Association in a ceremony July 28.
The award, named after the first woman to
graduate from medical school in the U.S., is
given annually to a female physician who has
made outstanding contributions to the cause
of women in the field of medicine. Littles
serves as senior associate dean for medical
education and academic affairs at Florida State
University College of Medicine in Tallahassee.
News Notes
Sarah Vinson, MD ’07, has been named program director of the child psychiatry
fellowship at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. Vinson was instrumental in
designing the fellowship, which is the first of its kind at a historically black college
or university. In September, she was appointed by Georgia’s governor to the state’s
Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission. Vinson, who is a triple boardcertified
child and adolescent, adult and forensic psychiatrist, also recently joined
the UF College of Medicine’s Medical Alumni Association Board of Directors.
