Make A Splash Fish Mural - Adorning the North wall of The Local Basket Case, (inside of
the Chisholm Street pocket park and adjacent to Mangos Restaurant & Tequila Bar) this
community mural was completed in summer of 2016 during the “Make a Splash for Art”
workshop and fundraising event, was damaged by a wind storm, and then rebuilt in 2019.
The aquascape represents one aspect of Alpena’s maritime heritage history – a shipwreck,
painted by local residents make this unique mural stand out as a must capture destination.

Covered Wooden Bridge - Constructed in the summer of 2015, this hand-hewn wooden
bridge has become a staple in our community. It is often the centerpiece for a picturesque
backdrop for wedding photos, senior portraits, paddling trips, and hiking adventures. With
the peaceful Thunder Bay River below, you won’t want to miss a photo-op with this covered
bridge connecting Duck Park to Island Park. Corner of W. Chisholm St. and Long Rapids Rd.

Fossil Quarry at Rockport - For an expedition photo-op to remember, trek to the abandoned
limestone quarry at Rockport State Recreation Area to hunt for fossils from the
Devonian Period. These 400+ million-year-old fossils are plentiful. Each visitor to the park is
allowed to take up to 25 pounds of fossils per year home for personal enjoyment.

Maiden with Owl Mural - Make your way into downtown Alpena and get your photo taken
Alpena native Aaron Golbeck and Colorado artist Chad Bolsinger. As part of the Alpena
Downtown Development’s public art initiative, the woman and the owl on the backside of
Family Enterprise Embroidery will have you wondering, who is this woman? And what does
the owl represent? Questions that only you can answer, as this art is meant to speak to each
individual in a creative way.
