John A. Lau Saloon
414 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena
Alpena’s oldest original saloon still stands from Alpena's
lumber boomtown days. A man named John A. Lau and
his wife Agnes opened the saloon around 1893 to satisfy
the thirst of the lumberjacks who were hard at work in
to have witnessed paranormal activity at the restaurant.
Most folks believe it to be the ghost of Agnes.

South Entrance: US-23 North,
To follow Rockport Rd., follow to the end.
North Entrance: US-23 North to Grand Lake Rd.
Follow East Grand Lake Rd. Park entrance
Is on the right, just before Bell Bay Rd.
The south entrance to the park includes the limestone quarry
(abandoned in 1948), deep water port and
pier from the Great Lakes Lime & Stone Company
(later known as Kelly Island Lime and Transit).
The north entrance to the park includes the ghost
Village of Bell and the Bell Cemetery. The village
of Bell was a small lumber town, which was
abandoned by 1900.
Besser Museum

The Besser Museum is one of the best places to visit if

house, and stroll through a hall that is a replica of Alpe-
thrived in the Northeast region.
Take time to explore the prehistoric and Native
American artifact exhibits, and don’t forget
to check out the LaFarge Fossil Park.
