report to Senior Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer Jim Nickolas.
Vice President of Operations Services
Tony DiRico will continue reporting to
Nye with an enhanced focus on leading
and supporting the delivery of some of
the largest capital projects in Martin
Marietta’s history.
▼ CENTRAL DIVISION
Jerry Dahl, night shift foreman at Fort
Dodge Mine, has retired after 44 years of
service with Martin Marietta. Beginning
his career in 1976, Dahl worked in various
roles during his tenure, including as
an equipment operator and a leadman. In
2018, he was promoted
to the position
of foreman.
“Jerry is a wealth
of knowledge and
experience. We
will miss his great
sense of humor
but wish him the
best as he begins
a well-deserved retirement,” said Plant
Manager Jeff Himes.
▼ MAGNESIA SPECIALTIES
DIVISION
The Magnesia Chemicals team is
celebrating the careers of four employees
who have each served with Martin
Marietta for the past 45 years. Pictured
above from left are Lab Analyst Mike
Adamski, Welder Mechanic Tom Volkema
and Stockroom Clerks Robert Baker and
Doug Lytle. Leadership at the Manistee,
Michigan, operation praised each of the
longtime employees for their hard work
and dedication.
▼ MID-ATLANTIC DIVISION
The Lemon Springs Volunteer Fire
Department took to social media in
January, notifying the Sanford, North
Carolina, community that Lemon
Springs Community Park had undergone
significant improvements and was
available for public use. Tyler Pattie,
foreman at the neighboring Lemon
Springs Quarry, said Martin Marietta
contributed to the fire department’s
improvement project, providing more
than 100 tons of material for use in the
site’s parking lots and driveways. Further,
Pattie said members of the quarry team
joined with firefighters late last year for a
day of clearing brush and building fences.
“It feels good to have an impact,” Pattie
said. “That park is used and enjoyed by
everyone around us.”
The Mid-Atlantic Division’s Churchville
Quarry recently awarded $1,000 grants
to chapters of the Boys and Girls Club
and YMCA in Harford County, Maryland,
said Dave Thomey, a local company
representative. Thomey, who is heavily
involved in the Maryland District’s public
affairs efforts, said the grants will fund
STEM education and environmental
improvements in the local community.
▼ SOUTHEAST DIVISION
The Southeast Division is celebrating two
employees who have each retired after
more than four decades of service with
Martin Marietta. Kenneth Johnson, plant
manager at Appling Quarry in Georgia,
retired in January after 42 years of
service. Additionally, Freida Peeples, a
sales audit administrator in the Alabama
District, retired in January after 43 years
of service.

In Memoriam
This edition of The Conveyor is dedicated to Jose Perez-
Santiago, 31, who passed away on Oct. 24 as a result of
injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car during a
hit-and-run incident on a customer’s jobsite. Perez-Santiago
joined Martin Marietta in the Western Division’s Southern
Asphalt and Paving group more than three years ago and
quickly became an essential member of the team, said
Division President Abbott Lawrence.
“His positive attitude and eagerness to learn were truly
valued by his colleagues, and he will be dearly missed,” Lawrence said, adding
that Perez-Santiago’s brother, Luis Perez-Santiago, also works with Martin Marietta
and is grateful for the support he’s received from the company and its people.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Perez-Santiago enjoyed working as a mechanic and
electrician and doing construction work. He spent his time drawing, cooking, working
on cars and playing video games. According to his obituary, he is survived by a
“large, loving family in both Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Puerto Rico.”
