Raise More Than
$100,000 for The Kortney
Rose Foundation
BY LORI DRAZ
The Little Silver Turning Point staff and Kortney Rose Foundation’s Kristen and Rich Gillette
celebrate the record-breaking donation.
This Feb. 29, all the Turning Point Restaurants once again supported The
Kortney Rose Foundation (KRF) during the 11th annual Great Food for a
Great Cause event. The event raised a record-setting $106,000, pushing
its cumulative total to more than $516,000 in donations.
These funds will go to continue KRF’s mission to raise funds for collaborative
research on pediatric brain tumors, the top cause of death by disease
in children.
All those who dined at any of the 19 Turning Point Restaurant locations
in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware and donated to KRF received a
Turning Point gift card to be used on their next visit.
The money raised directly benets research being done through the 17
worldwide collaborative institutions making up the Children’s Brain Tumor
Tissue Consortium (CBTTC). They share specimens and data to accelerate discovery
of effective treatments and cures for children with pediatric brain/central
nervous system tumors. The CBTTC is operated out of the Center for Data
Driven Discovery in Biomedicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. To
date, KRF founders Kristen and Rich Gillette are approaching $2.5 million donated
through the foundation for pediatric brain tumor research in the memory
of their daughter Kortney, who died from a brain tumor in 2006.
Turning Point owners Kirk and Pam Ruoff said, “Every year our staff and
patrons look forward to this fundraiser.”
The next fundraiser is The Kortney Rose Foundation’s 15th annual Kortney’s
Challenge 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk at Monmouth Park on Sunday, Aug. 2.
