Supports Wuhan, China
There has been a dramatic growth in the number of students learning
the Chinese language at Holmdel High School over the past several
years. Holmdel High School’s Chinese teacher and advisor for the
Chinese Honor Society Yongping Wang emphasizes cultural appreciation
and global understanding. In Chinese class, students learn about oriental
history, culture, activities and how similar languages have developed.
Under her direction, these students have gained a greater knowledge of
both the Chinese language and culture.
The Chinese Honor Society at Holmdel High School promotes diversity
and acceptance. Members participate in community events such as
the school’s international dinner and world language fair. This tight-knit
community of students also sponsors fundraising activities such as dumpling
and bubble tea sales. Money raised from these activities has been
donated to several worthy local causes. Recently, the students donated
$200 they raised from these sales to help people in Wuhan, China buy
medical supplies needed for the patients and the hospitals.
