Open Spaces
Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail - Owned and managed by Albany County with the
cooperation of partners including the Town of Bethlehem and the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy,
which operates the Trail Ambassador program through its Friends of the Rail Trail committee.
The full 9 miles of the trail is open to the public and is paved from the Port of Albany through the
Slingerlands trail head, where it continues unpaved through the terminus in Voorheesville.
Five Rivers - Five Rivers Environmental Education Center is a living museum comprising over 450
acres of broad fields, towering forests, and tranquil wetlands. Five Rivers offers people of all ages a
rich variety of guided and self-guided opportunities to encounter nature directly.
Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy - The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy is Bethlehem’s
neighborhood land trust, working since 1992 to improve the quality of life for Bethlehem residents.
MHLC preserves fields and forests, protects wildlife habitat, and preserves the character of Bethlehem.
MHLC owns and operates 18 nature preserves, 6 of which are located in Bethlehem. MHLC
also offers many community events and programs throughout the year including hikes, naturalist

Pine Hollow Arboretum - The Pine Hollow Arboretum is a 25-acre, member-supported, not-forprofit
arboretum and nature preserve situated five miles from downtown Albany, in Slingerlands,
New York. The arboretum’s cataloged collection consists of over 3,300 unique trees, shrubs and
other woody plants from around the world.
