In its simplest
sense, value is a
comment on the
rarity and quality
of a particular
emerald relative to
the volume population of emeralds. As with ruby, any discussion of quality also must consider size and freedom
from treatment. The price per carat can increase dramatically as the size of the stone increases. As a rule, every 1
carat increase in the size of an untreated Colombian emerald will double the per carat price. A three carat extra
fine Colombian emerald is substantially more expensive per carat than a comparably graded one carat stone. Just
as a comparable five carat stone will be far more costly per carat than the three carat stone. In upper fine and
extra fine qualities, per carat price jumps are seen in one carat increments until 5.00 carats. Likewise, a
reliable assessment of enhancement is also necessary to accurately price an emerald. Two comparably graded
emeralds will have vastly different values if one has an insignificant degree of enhancement but the other a
moderate level.

ROLEX (BRIEF HISTORY)
ROLEX.COM
HANS WILSDORF / 1905
The history of Rolex is inextricably linked to the visionary spirit of Hans
Wilsdorf, its founder. In 1905, at the age of 24, Hans Wilsdorf founded a
company in London specializing in the distribution of timepieces. He began
to dream of a watch worn on the wrist. Wristwatches were not very precise
at the time, but Hans Wilsdorf foresaw that they could become not only
elegant, but also reliable.
