The Shrewsbury Garden Club
(SGC) members were delighted
meeting of the season on Sept. 15,
graciously hosted by Co-president
Judy Bonanno. The meeting also
welcomed members and guests from
the nearby Oceanport Garden Club,
who enjoyed a late afternoon/early
evening gathering on Bonanno’s expansive
lawn, under the festive lights
on her porch and gazebo area.

by member gardeners. The remaining
plants were sold to the public on Sept.
30 during the club’s annual mum sale.

Current members also received a membership kit, tucked inside
roomy tote bags that were donated by Sunrise Senior Living. The tote bags
also contained the club’s annual yearbook printed by Omega Graphics, an
SGC apron to wear during group gardening activities, and a nametag for
meetings and other group activities.

also presented members with
20 or more years of service to
the club a lovely commemorative
pin. They are Ellen
Preissler, 25 years; Therese
Blake, 21 years; and Maureen
Kachinski, 20 years. They also
joyfully welcomed seven new
members to the club, growing
membership to 33.
The club’s theme for the
year is Women in Gardening. In
2021, the club will celebrate its
65th anniversary. They marked
the occasion with a group photo
to be added to the archives.
On Sept. 19, the club host-

bers brought their own gloves
and tools and worked together
in the different garden areas.

weeded, watered, pruned and
maintained the gardens. Mon-

Horticulture Committee Co-chair Nancy Schmaltz shared, “Our
community garden has donated 20 pounds of vegetables to Lunch
Break so far this year.”
The October meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 pm
members will be out for their monthly day of service on Saturday,
Oct. 24 when they will
care for the planters at
Borough Hall.
