WINNER 2017
Harvest time is here. As we all slowly return back to normal,
Mother Nature begins her explosive change of seasons, showering
our senses with an endless blanket of bounty and beauty.
And the best part is that the show is right outside of every
window, bringing vision and scents that liberate the spirit. The
sights change every day, renewing our reverence for the nature
we are blessed to enjoy in this extraordinary place we call home.
Whether you’re picking pumpkins, creating macabre ghoulish
scenes, tending to your gardens or enjoying an afternoon in the
crisp autumn air, October is never dull and never disappoints.
Italians and all Americans celebrate Columbus Day, we
honor the women who make our lives richer as we commemorate
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and then there’s all the
spooky fun of Halloween. As the owner of a brand-new puppy, I
would also like to mention that October is Adopt a Shelter Dog
Month. If you have room in your home and heart, bringing in a
new pet will bring you hours of love every day. Our amazing students
and teachers are hard at work, having settled into a new
school year, and outdoorsy folks are busier than ever. Many of
virtual formats, and we encourage you to be generous with them
all as they continue meeting the many needs in our community.
We hope you’ll enjoy this edition of The Journal which features
articles on interesting people, important events and news
from our hometowns. Our Historic Havens column returns with
another chapter of “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” a perfect
Halloween read. We hope you’ll enjoy all our regular columns
and stories. We are also busy working on our Holiday Guide,
coming in November. This guide is open to every kind of good
and service imaginable, and The Journal’s loyal readers are ready
to learn all about your wares as they plan their holiday shopping.
If you would like to be a part of the guide, call Director of Sales
Patrick Collins at 848-456-4824, and he will take care of you.
As always, we thank our many advertisers who make bringing
you The Journal possible. Our small businesses are run by
our neighbors and friends, and they need our support so please
shop local. We invite you to send us your fall photos. We look forward
to sharing your carved pumpkins, costumes and creativity
with all the many followers of our busy social media platforms.
This October, we hope you’ll make the time to experience
the grandeur and the red and gold glories all around. Take a
lazy drive through the horse farms, stop at a market for a hot cocoa
and see it all. Colorful wishes from the staff of The Journal!
