BREAKTHROUGH IN NEUROPATHY TREATMENT
BY DR. YULIYA CHERNYAK, DAOM
The most common method your doctor will recommend
treating your neuropathy with is prescription drugs that
may temporarily reduce your symptoms. These include
Gabapentin, Lyrica, Cymbalta and Neurontin, and primarily
antidepressant or anti-seizure drugs. These drugs may
cause you to feel uncomfortable and have a variety of
harmful side effects.
Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to the
nerves, often causing weakness, pain, numbness, tingling
and debilitating
balance problems.
This damage is commonly
caused by a
lack of blood flow
to the nerves in the
hands and feet which
causes the nerves to
begin to degenerate
due lack of nutrients.
As you can see in Figure
1, as the blood
vessels that surround
the nerves become diseased, they shrivel up. This prevents
the nerves from getting much-needed nutrients. When these
nerves begin to die, they may cause balance problems, pain,
numbness, tingling, burning and additional symptoms.
The main problem with this
method of treatment is that
you must still live with the
issue and even experience
these other side effects.
Now, there is a facility
right in Hazlet that offers
hope and a new treatment
option – eliminating the
need to take countless drugs
with serious side effects. Central
New Jersey Acupuncture
& Wellness offers acupuncture
to increase blood flow and expedite recovery.
Before beginning treatment for neuropathy, your doctor
must discover the cause of the issue, determine the percentage
of nerve damage and determine if you are a candidate.
At our clinic, the three goals of treatment are to improve
circulation (blood flow), target nerve regeneration and decrease
brain-based pain.
By the time a patient comes to our clinic, they may have
been told there is nothing that can be done and that they have
to just live with the condition. However, in our office, we routinely
see miracles in patients who avoid surgery, get rid of
their walkers or canes, and are able to socialize and feel normal
after a few short weeks of our Acupuncture Neuropathy
Program (ANP).
ANP promotes the release of endorphins into the muscles,
spine and brain. As a result, your body changes its response to
pain and your symptoms lessen. It also improves blood flow,
which relieves circulation issues and repairs nerve damage.
The amount of treatment to allow nerves to fully recover varies
from person to person and can only be determined after a
detailed neurological and vascular evaluation. As long as you
have not sustained at least 85 percent nerve damage, there is
hope.
In an effort to protect our patients, both current and future,
we have made the difficult decision to limit the number
of patients seen in the clinic. Only 20 new neuropathy patients
will be accepted before the end of March, so call 732-285-4184
now to schedule a consultation and test.
