BY SHANNA O’MARA
Knollwood School seventh

goal of winning the school competition,” Josh Halpern, Zach’s father,
said. “He set out this year with the same goal.”
He prepared this year by practicing words with his parents and
studying for endless hours leading up to the competition. To capture
the victory among his classmates, Zach had to recite each word and
correctly spell it. Once the contest was opened up to the whole school,
participants had to compete online, typing the words instead of verbalizing
them. The Knollwood champion said it was a challenge to adjust
to the digital format, but one he was capable of overcoming.
After 90 words, Zach was named the winner, his achievement recognized
on the sign outside the school.

persevere, you will be rewarded by success. It also will teach you to
never give up.”
Giving up is simply not in Zach’s nature, his father said.
“He works incredibly hard at everything he does,” Josh said.

approach to life. We are so very proud of him and everything he aspires
to be and can’t wait to see what the future brings.”
