Knollwood School Girls' Basketball Team
Completes Undefeated Season
BY LES PIERCE
The Knollwood Knights girls’ basketball team posted a 7-0 record to
complete a COVID-19 abbreviated season undefeated. However, that
campaign when an upstart Shrewsbury squad put the Knights to the test.
half. Knollwood responded with a suffocating defense and outscored
Shrewsbury by a 23-7 margin in the second half to go on to a 36-29 victo-
scoring 10 of her season-high 14 points in the second half.
Over the course of the campaign, the Knights outscored opponents
by a 235-156 advantage. Erin Reid led all scorers with 67 points on the
season (9.6 ppg), followed by Notine with 62 points (8.9 ppg). Annabelle
Costello was the top three-point shooter on the squad, netting 21 of her
28 points from outside the arc. Point guard Brooke Lucci engineered the
offense and was also the squad’s top threat on defense.
Head Coach William Dodich has been at the helm since 2017.
“These girls inspired me this year in a way much deeper than their
play on the basketball court,” stated Dodich. “In a season with so much
uncertainty, the girls remained a steady source of positivity through
schedule changes and some players needing to quarantine. They also
overcame a total team shutdown for two weeks in the middle of the
season. They made the most of every opportunity they had on the court,
in both practices and games, to become better players and more importantly
better teammates. This has been a challenging year. Watching the
girls enjoy the game of basketball through it all made it that much more
special of a season for me.”
