Summer Bucket List

long days is often a happy mix of active fun and relaxation. More activities take place outside,
and families typically spend more time together. To embrace the joys of summer, here’s a Summer
Bucket List for kids of all ages. Choose your favorite activities, or try to complete them all! Get
ready for summer, get set for special memories – and go have fun!
Run through a sprinkler, at least once, preferably
many times!
Visit a county or state fair, or a local carnival. Ride
a roller coaster or a Ferris wheel.
Decorate a sideway, driveway or wall with chalk.
Do some star gazing. Spread a blanket on the grass
on a clear night, and stare at the sky.
Eat corn on the cob. Buy it from a farmer’s market
or farm stand, cook it as soon as you get home, and
eat immediately (butter and salt optional!)
Gently catch at least one firefly and see how long it
stays on your hand.
Eat at least three new flavors of ice cream.
On a hot day, replace one meal with a banana split.
Have a family water fight with water guns and/
or water balloons. Or turn it into a neighborhood
event!
Visit a historic site.
On a rainy day, go outside and dance. Or wait until
the storm passes and then jump in puddles.
Visit libraries and playgrounds in neighboring towns.
On National Watermelon Day (Tuesday, Aug. 3), get
a watermelon with pits, and have a contest to see
who can spit the seeds the farthest. The record –
so far – was set by a Texas man who spit a pit more
than 75 feet.
Get up early and watch the sunrise.
Visit a garage sale and buy something.
Go bowling on a hot day.
Eat a snow cone or ice pop – especially one that will
turn your tongue a bright color.
Visit a waterfall, preferably one where you can
get wet.
Watch fireworks. Find a schedule of local firework
displays and attend as many as you can.
Go camping – even if it’s in your own backyard.
Hike on a nature trail. Put several pieces of
double-sided tape on your shoes, and examine what
sticks to the tape as you walk. Bring a magnifying
glass for more fun.
Have a picnic on a blanket, even if it’s in your
backyard.
Make s’mores, preferably over a fire.
Visit a zoo, aquarium and/or a planetarium.
Have a bubble gum-blowing contest.
Assemble a jigsaw puzzle. The larger, the better!
Read at least three books. Try a genre you usually
don’t read.
And finally, a big challenge for many: Avoid TV, radio
and the internet for 24 hours!
Fly a kite.
