W I believe in
compassion for all living
beings and our planet.
I grew up eating meat,
eggs and cheese. Once
I learned this meant
separating families
and inflicting suffering
upon animals, it was a
no-brainer. Being vegan
means following a
compassionate diet and
lifestyle. I fuel my body
and fashion choices in a
way that aligns with my
morals. Not only do my
choices provide animals
a better quality of life,
but they benefit the
planet and my health.
Vegan is love!”

“My top 3
reasons
for being
vegan:
1.
I believe we
are meant to
love and care
for our earthly
friends, not
kill or exploit
them.
2.
Science has
proven that a
plant-based
diet is much
healthier
for us.
3.
Converting
so much land
to support
livestock
and factory
farming
adds to the
destruction
of our
climate and
ecosystems.”

“I went vegan for the
animals. All my life, I
adored animals, so it only
made sense. It seemed
like cognitive dissonance
had just gotten in the
way. I went vegetarian at
14 for a week because I
had a teacher who was
vegetarian. In college, I
signed up for the PETA
newsletter. I went back
to being vegetarian for
six months, and now I’ve
been vegan for 14 years.”

VEGAN?
I was 12 when I watched a
documentary on McDonald’s
factory farming that showed the extreme
conditions in which chickens live.
In Mexico, where my grandfather lived,
chickens were family pets for a short while. They
loved them, but when it was time to kill them,
they didn’t stop it. I will never forget when my
cousin’s hen laid her egg, and my cousin took it
away. At that moment, the hen cried frantically,
desperately looking for her new egg, not
suspecting my cousin because of their trusting
relationship. We felt bad. Memories of animal
consciousness were pushed to the back of my
head; however, the feeling remained.
I came across the same documentary in
college, but I had vegan options as a student
and finally realized I could do something. I
became vegan because it was simply that easy
not to harm another being.” — BETZY MAYA
I became a
vegetarian
when I was
12 because I
realized that
animals are
living beings,
and I decided I
can’t eat them
anymore. In
college, a friend
taught me
about animal
agriculture
and how it’s
bad for the
environment.
That pushed me
to go full-vegan.
So, it’s for the
animals and the
planet.”— SARA SELMIĆ
“Animals deserve to live in peace just like
we do, safe from harm and suffering. It’s
immoral and arbitrary to think animals
are ours to do with as we please. We
don’t need animals to survive; on the
contrary, using and consuming animals
has proven detrimental to our species’
survival and well-being. After I opened
my eyes to the truth and consequences of
our actions regarding animals, I decided
to live a kinder life where instead of
destroying, I can preserve, and instead of
inflicting harm, I can create refuge.”

Animals have no way of conveying their fear, needs or worth to
humans who don’t know it yet — only you have that.”
