Navesink Garden Club Begins New Season
The Navesink Garden Club began its

2021-22 season on June 15 at its annual
luncheon at The Molly Pitcher
Inn. President Leslie Tuthill announced
that the Navesink Garden Club would be
resuming a full schedule with in-person
meetings and programs at The Atrium
at Navesink Harbor in Red Bank. After
thanking members who had worked so
diligently to foster an active club during
the pandemic, new members Irma
Philmus and Julie Renzi were welcomed
into the club and presented with their
Navesink Garden Club green aprons.
Cecelia Millea, president of Garden
Club of New Jersey (GCNJ), addressed club members and said the theme
of her presidency would be “Find Shelter Under the Trees.” Millea in-
Joanne Mallon, vice president; Katherine Pojawa, treasurer; Betty Lou
Berger, recording secretary; Melanie Strainero, corresponding secretary;
theme of her tenure would be “Bloom Where You Are Planted.”
An overview of upcoming programs for 2021-22 was presented by
Mallon. A variety of topics will include Mastering Petite Design, Villa Vanilla
Spice Plantation and Tasting, NJ
Beauties for Your Garden and workshops
presented by club members.
It was announced that the recipient
of the $1,000 Navesink Garden Club/
Mary Cain Scholarship was Brandi Calavano,
a student at Brookdale Community
College. The following awards were received
from the Garden Club of New Jer-
an Excellent Yearbook to Ronnie Lander,
Red Bank Sidewalk Planter Maintenance
to Yoko Ikura, and The Marguerite & Vincent
Mulligan Garden Therapy Award
for Friends and Flowers to Berger and Hope Hanlon. Pojawa and Mallon
received the GCNJ Perennial Bloom Award for long-time membership serv-
The Navesink Garden Club invites people interested in horticulture,
design and the environment to attend a meeting, enjoy a warm and friendly
welcome, and learn about club projects and activities. Meetings are held
at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor in Red Bank on the second Tuesday of the
month at 10 am. Programs start at 11 am and are free to the public. Visit
