Spinal decompression is by far the most
outstanding physical benefi t of an aerial yoga
practice. Vertebrae are gently separated from
each other allowing for space between the
cartilaginous intervertebral discs. Studies
have shown that after a single class, you will
be anywhere from ½” to 3 ½” taller than when
you started. Although the visual effect is only
temporary, the long-term benefi ts of stretching
the spine are considerable. If you are a bit of
a control freak, aerial yoga will help you let go
of your obsession by surrendering yourself to
gravity and trusting your body while suspended
in the hammock. It is very safe if you follow the
instructions of the teacher and listen to your body.
In aerial yoga there is no impact on the joints,
and it improves fl exibility, increases strength,
improves your posture and boosts your mood.
Mat poses become easier to master and increased
self-confi dence develops. Circulation improves,
lymphatic drainage is stimulated and better
digestion is facilitated.
The total body workout helps to relieve back
pain, promote better sleep, and reduces risk
factors for a variety of diseases. Anyone in good
health can practice aerial yoga without restrictions
of age or body type, but it is always wise to consult
with your medical provider before beginning
an aerial practice if you have any special health
concerns.
Whether practicing indoors or outdoors, aerial
yogis take on new sensations without hesitation.
“Floating through the air with the greatest of
ease” is now the mantra of aerial yoga enthusiasts
as they elevate the yoga experience to soaring
new heights. Still wondering if aerial yoga is for
you? It will most assuredly have you fl ying high
and standing tall leaving you feeling lighter,
brighter and full of possibility. Inviting all beings
everywhere to be happy and free.
