Many artists and companies bring their sound engineer who
the sound, we work with the onstage performers. The onstage
musicians and vocalists use sound Monitors so that they can hear
each other. Often the onstage sound spills into the theatre, so the
sound engineer must balance the sound.
Additionally, as we age our hearing changes. Recruitment is
a physical condition of the inner ear that leads to reduced tolerance
loss due to cochlear damage. While low-magnitude sounds cannot
be heard in the affected ear(s), the perceived loudness increases
over-proportionally with sound volume once the auditory threshold
has been overcome. This can result in a reduced tolerance to
loudness, as loud sounds may be perceived louder than normal.

or King Center in Melbourne?
SFSC Performing Arts does book “big name” artists like Jay
Leno, Bill Engvall, Petula Clark, Michael W. Smith, Chita Rivera,
The Righteous Brothers, The Beach Boys, America, John Tesh
and Jim Brickman. National tours of Broadway shows like Legally
Blonde, An American in Paris, The Sound of Music and The Buddy
Holly Story are also booked.
When booking performances, SFSC Performing Arts is
competing with major presenters like the Van Wezel, Dr. Phillips
Center, Straz, Ruth Eckerd and Broward Center with much larger
budgets. Many “big name” artists may choose to perform for only
While SFSC Performing Arts may offer a $65,000 artist fee for a
performance, other larger and higher funded venues outbid us.
Some artists, in addition to their fee, may additional requests
equipment or paying for private jet travel. These fees greatly
increase the cost. Artists like Hugh Jackman, Dolly Parton and
Michael Buble perform in large arenas, not 1,460 seat performing
arts centers.
