Dear SFSC Performing Arts Friend,
In 1863, at the height of the Civil War, President Abraham
Lincoln asked Americans to “heal the wounds of the nation”
in his proclamation officially designating Thanksgiving as a
national holiday.
In 2012, actor Robert Redford said at a National Arts Policy Meeting, “The
country needs to be healed—it’s not going to be healed from the top,
politically. How are we going to heal? Art is the healing force.”
It has been a difficult year for most of us and SFSC Performing Arts
is here to heal you with live music, dance, comedy and variety acts.
Performances such as Carousel in Concert, Michael W. Smith and
Tony DeSare Trio will uplift your spirits. The sheer joy of performances
like Tango Fire, Catapult: Shadow Dancers and the Tamburitzans will
elevate your mood. Through our art exhibits in MOFAC and the Wildstein
Center lobby, we also bring you restorative visual arts to boost your
morale.
We are proud to help heal our local community through our Play Your
Part! program. This year we partnered with the Children’s Museum of
Highlands County, AdventHealth Sebring Foundation, United Way of
Central Florida, Hardee County Players, Heartland Cultural Alliance,
Mason Smoak Foundation, Parkview Prep Academy, Walker Memorial
Academy, Lake Placid Historical Society, Ridge Area ARC, Sebring Band
Boosters and Sebring Historical Society. With a generous sponsorship
from Bill and Lisa Jarrett, Mark Nizer: 4D will delight young and old in his
humorous, juggling show, but also raise much needed funds for these
non-profits.
As you celebrate the holiday season, my wish for you is simple: May your
heart feel lighter, May your spirit be restored and May joy and peace settle
your soul.
Happy Holidays,
Cindy Garren
Director, SFSC Cultural Programs
