Betsy and Dr. Abe Marcadis, and Michele and Mark Miller by
presenting them with its annual Tree of Life Awards in recognition
of their outstanding community involvement, dedication to the
cause of American-Israeli friendship and devotion to peace and
security of human life. The JNF also gave a Lifetime Achievement
Award to Lilly Salcman and its Lawrence D. Wasser Humanitarian
Award to Rabbi Ed Rosenthal. The Jewish National Fund began in
1901, when Jews all over the world collected coins to purchase land
and plant trees in Israel. Today, JNF works to ensure the prosperity
of the land of Israel.

To salute and honor American heroes, Congressman David Jolly
commissioned photographer Ryan Joseph to take portraits of 16
veterans or their families. The Congressman has hung the 16 prints in
his Washington, D.C. office; given another set to the Armed Forces History
Museum in Largo, where they now hang; and presented a framed print to
each of the veterans or to their families, who are the subjects of the photos.
The presentation and unveiling of the photographs took place during a
continental breakfast at the Museum during which Rosemary and John
Piazza, the Museum’s founders, and Cindy Bosselman, its assistant
executive director, announced the Sergeant Bill Allen Scholarship to
provide transportation, lunch and a Museum visit for underprivileged
children as part of its “Operation Education” program. Eight new cases,
exhibits and dioramas that reflect the WACs, the USO, the Holocaust
and other significant stories of military history were also unveiled.
