Hotel Storyville'
A Secret Gem
When one
hears the
name “Storyville,”
probably the
first things that
come to mind
are images of
elegant bordellos
with scantilyclad
young
women posing for
photographs, and
film classics like Louis Malle’s “Pretty
Baby” starring Brooke Shields. Although
New Orleans’ once-notorious red light
district is long gone the Storyville name
lives on in a well-appointed hotel in a
reconstructed Victorian-style mansion
about a mile away from its namesake’s
former site.
Hotel Storyville, located at 1261
Esplanade Avenue, sits on a quiet,
shaded, expansive parcel on the dividing
line between the Treme and Esplanade
Ridge neighborhoods of New Orleans.
Just two blocks from the French Quarter
and conveniently situated on or near
major public transportation routes,
the eight-suite hotel is a mecca for
vacationers seeking relaxed tranquility
and solace from the frenetic pace of
Bourbon Street after a night or more of
partying there.
Barbara Ann Locklear is the genial,
gregarious Resident Innkeeper of Hotel
Storyville, a property she bought in
by Breakthru Media Magazine Staff
2008 and has tastefully refurbished,
redecorated and repurposed into firstclass
accommodations and a popular
event venue.
The spacious, verdant, meticulously
tended garden with its lily pond spanned
by a wooden footbridge and a large,
covered pavilion with a Tiki bar at the
rear of the hotel is Barbara’s pride and
joy. The garden is available for rental
and has hosted hundreds of fun events
over the years. They include concerts,
weddings, private parties, crawfish boils,
art markets, cigar nights, Latin nights,
movie nights, bachelorette parties,
Easter egg hunts for the kids, Halloween
parties, receptions, fashion shows . . .
you name it!
