DURING TRIP
DEVOTIONAL DAY 3
Journal Your Response Below:
STRUGGLE TO FINISH
Nehemiah cast the vision, the plans got underway, and hearts were captured
before hands even got to work. Much like Nehemiah and his mission, you have
prepared yourself for your time here this week. All the supplies are packed in the
vehicle, and this promises to be a great day!
Suddenly, one of the vehicles won’t start, or one of your teammates has a
migraine, and the excitement slows down. This is no different than what
Nehemiah was faced with. Nehemiah’s response in Nehemiah 2:20 is so powerful:
“The God of Heaven will give us success.” What a promise for us to claim!
The fact is, when we strive to do anything big for God, we can expect opposition.
As we continue our study in this book we’ll see that Nehemiah faced Sanballat
and Tobiah over and over and over, but we’ll never see him fearing them or
deterred by them. His response to them in verse 20 is classic. He essentially says
“We are doing what God wants us to do. He is with us and you are not. You have
no part in this, so hit the road!”
Little by little, the building began taking shape. However, when the wall was
halfway up, people began to hear threats of an attack. In response, Nehemiah did
a bold thing. He had the workers continue building the wall with one hand, while
holding a weapon in the other hand. in Nehemiah 4:14, Nehemiah reminds the
workers of the Lord’s power: “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is
great and awesome, and ght...”
We all have parts of our lives that feel like those broken walls around Jerusalem,
areas where we feel weak and vulnerable. It can be easy to try to hide those from
others and God; but the story of Nehemiah encourages us to rebuild those areas
of our lives with God’s help, ghting for the strength and victory that comes in
Him. God is looking to engage with you on a personal level this week. He wants to
offer you victory and restoration, as He offered to His people long ago.
