1996 and renovated his residence to FEMA
code standards. He and Patria took their
recreational vehicle and evacuated to
another home in Winter Park, where the
hurricane followed as they moved north up
the peninsula of Florida. They spent some
time cleaning up in Central Florida as well.
“I’m kind of out of shape since my
practice pool, a canal out behind my
house has been pretty murky since the
storm,” he said. “I haven’t been able to
practice in the water and have been doing
a lot of dry-land training.
McGee has been swimming in the
Florida Senior Games since 2006 and won
two bronze medals at the 2015 National
Senior Games in Minneapolis.
Track and field athlete and
pickleball player Dominic Grillo is
a marketing genius and he doesn’t
even realize it.
The 85-year old Senior Games
athlete from Dunedin came across
Grillo’s Pickles, an established company
based in Boston that distributes their
product nationally. Dominic contacted
the company informing them of their
Dominic Grillo
common name and his athletic endeavors.
“They sent me some hats and T-shirts,”
Grillo said.
He and his men’s doubles partner,
Al Palumbo, may be sporting their
Grillo’s Pickles wear at the Long Center
during competition or at the Track
during Dominic’s running events.
The company’s eye-catching logo, a
pickle sunning itself in a lawn chair
wearing sunglasses, and the enthusiastic
representative are hard to miss.
“I used to run in marathons but not
anymore,” he said. “I’m registered in the
100, 200 and 400 meters and just do a slow
shuffle these days.”
