The Hickory County Community Wellness Foundations
hosts a Volunteer Recognition dinner each year. The
intent of this dinner is to recognize volunteers throughout
Hickory County that volunteer with organizations that go
above and beyond the call of duty. The Hickory County
Community Wellness Foundation itself is comprised of a
group of community volunteers, so we recognize the importance
of awarding others who do so much to improve
our livelihoods. This dinner will be held at the Weathered
Wisdom Barn in Preston, Missouri. Admission will
be based upon donation. The volunteers will be chosen
based on community nomination. Community members
our community, so their hard work and community spirit
can be celebrated during this dinner. Forms to submit
for consideration can be picked up at the Hickory County
Library or the Hickory County Health Department.
For those not familiar with the Hickory County
Community Wellness Foundation, it was founded in 2000.
What is a community foundation? A community foundation
accepts donations for the establishment of endowment
funds, manages those funds and distributes earnings from
those funds to meet community needs. The Foundation
entire community. Some of the past projects have been
charity golf tournaments, community dinner-theaters, the
Running River 5K Race and hosting the Harlem Ambassadors
last year at the Skyline High School and granting
efforts made at the annual Hermitage Christmas Parade.
What the foundation does with the monies raised
from fundraising efforts is to give back to the community
which it serves. The money is then held by the Community
Foundation of the Ozarks, main organization in

ment funds, charitable minded individuals can establish
funds to build a permanent source of charitable assets to
meet emerging, as well as existing, needs of the community.
They do this by administering grant opportunities
at the end of each year, typically at the annual Hermitage
Christmas parade. They have also held fund raisers with
community partners, namely , Hickory County C.A.R.E.S.,
Hickory County Farmers Market, Hickory County Historical
Society, Hickory County Library, Friends of the Weaubleau
Park, Hickory County Volunteer Fire Departments, Hickory
County Fire and Rescue, Hickory County Health Department,
Hickory County Teen Outreach Programs and most
recently Four Legs & Fur.
Who determines distribution of funds? The
HCCWF Board of Governors is responsible for the distribution
of funds. Typically this is determined by a grant
opportunity at the end of each year. The Board of Governors
allows for a granting period and offers opportunity to
local groups and organizations to request monies for their
that the organization in question must be a 501c3 non-
