Our Park - 2018
Visit, Shop, Play & Dine - Lake Pomme De Terre
Pomme de Terre State Park
The 2017 Calendar year was a busy one for the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and 2018 promises
to be a busy one as well, here are a few
highlights of events and changes.
Recreation Management.
requiring an ongoing saga of campsite closures, road closures,
repairs and clean-up. The Pomme de Terre staff and volunteers
worked very hard to ensure as many campsites as possible were
available for use during the Holiday Weekends.
Camping:
In 2017 a “Limited Camping Season”, implemented in Nemo
and Outlet Parks, that program will become a regular part of the
camping program here at Pomme de Terre Lake. 2018 will again
have Nemo and Outlet Parks available for camping during the following
periods; March 15-April 15 & October 1 – November 30th, albeit
with limited amenities. Electrical service to the campsites will be
on and water will be available only in Outlet Park all other amenities
will not be available during those time periods. Camping fees will
be a set $10 per night with the regular discounts applying. Payment
of camping fees will be made at the self deposit vault located at the
Park Attendant Booth. Damsite Park will be included in the Limited
Camping season in the Fall of 2018.
Facilities:
Damsite Park is currently closed for construction of a new Sand/
Gravel Waste Water Treatment Plant on the West side of the park,
it is scheduled to be completed by March 1, 2018, and the campground
is expected to be open as usual for the regular camping
season. The Waste Water Treatment Plant will provide a much more
system. The courtesy docks at the Corps of Engineers managed
boat ramps are getting a minor upgrade in the form of a “loading
assistance” railing. Steel railing were fabricated and installed at each
of the courtesy docks to make transferring from the dock to a boat
and back easier and safer.
Day Use Fees:
The Day Use Fee season will be lengthened in 2018, fees will begin
on March 15 and extended through the end of November, so be
sure to buy your Annual Day Use Passes early this year. In addition
the Day Use Shelter reservation system will be extended to run from
March15 through October 31st.
Shoreline Management:
The Shoreline Management Plan which had been in the process
of being revised, is now complete and in use. It can be viewed in its
full text at the Pomme de Terre Lake Home Page http://www.nwk.

Natural Resource Management.
Project Staff has been busy installing
by Project Labor and or cooperating Agricultural Lease holders.
Access improvements have been provided by our Agricultural Lease
holders in some areas already and others are in the planning stages.
Project Staff is also preparing for the annual Fish Attractor Program
in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation and
will once again be working together to sink cedar trees in the lake.

WATER SAFETY
Most people that drown would have survived if they had worn a
life jacket. Life jackets come in many styles, sizes and colors. Choose

cartridge and repack it properly. Here are some more tips to help
you have a safe and enjoyable time this summer. Swimming in open
can tire more quickly and get into trouble due to waves, current, lack
of experience, exhaustion or your abilities to swim as long as you
their skills and abilities while swimming in a lake or river. Conditions
can change quickly in open water, so before entering the water,
please wear a life jacket. While wearing a life jacket you will not use
there when and if you ever really need it. While on or near the water
watch out for each other at all times. It only takes 20 seconds for a
child to drown and 60 seconds for an adult to drown. It is a misconception
that if someone is drowning they will yell for help. Several
people drown every year within 10 feet of safety because the people
around them were not paying attention and did not recognize the
signs of drowning. The signs of drowning can resemble someone
just playing in the water. The signs include head back, mouth open
gasping for air, no yelling or sound and arms slapping the water like
they are trying to climb out of the water. Properly rescuing someone
should never include contact with them unless you are a trained lifeguard.

Increased water safety awareness can help ensure that you and your
loved ones have fun this summer and return home safely. Always
remember to wear a life jacket because it could save your life or the
life of someone you love. Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns. Learn
