HOO’s INSPIRED
Stay at home moms have the rewarding responsibility of
caring for their children daily as they journey through the
developmental milestones of childhood. Here are some
unique challenges that might seem to be obstacles in your
journey as a stay at home mom and how to address them.
• Others assume that you have plenty of extra time:
In truth, stay at home moms have a schedule packed full
of doctor’s appointments, assisting with homework or
homeschooling, errands to keep the household running
smoothly, and after school activities. Those with infants and
toddlers who need constant care are on call 24/7. Politely
decline volunteer opportunities that overfill your calendar.
You don’t have to provide more of an explanation than your
schedule for the near future is already full.
• Feeling isolated from the rest of the world: It is easy
to become absorbed in constantly caring for young children
that you forget to build and maintain friendships. Both you
and your kids need to get out and interact with others. Packing
everything up for
your baby and
toddler may not
be easy, schedule
time for lunch
with an old friend
or make new ones.
Many moms are
connecting through Facebook
groups. For a list of local groups in our area that offer playdates,
mommy guidance, and companionship, visit our
website find “Mom Groups” under “Just 4 Parents.”
• Feeling a loss of identity: Take a class to build skills in
your area of interest. Your local library is a great source for free
classes in many different areas, such as crocheting, genealogy,
yoga and more. If you enjoy crafting or have an artistic talent,
consider turning that passion into a small business.
• Lack of time alone: If you are caring for a child or
homeschooling, you may feel there’s no time for you. Some
moms meditate or exercise during their baby’s nap time while
others get up a few minutes before their kids in order to have
a quiet moment alone. Don’t feel guilty about asking your
spouse to watch the kids while you exercise or relax. Just like
everyone else, you need to get enough sleep, eat nutritious
foods, and exercise to stay healthy. It’s important to pamper
yourself. The happier you are, the happier your family will be.
